A great read, Yael! I'm so happy that you didn't stop there (as of course you wouldn't, being the introspective and empathetic human you are), because the implication I took away at first is that you were saying it is whiteness that is inherently problematic, which to me is simply shifting troublesome racial generalizations from black to white. But instead you clarify, beautifully, that it is the systematic *weaponization* of whiteness--against non-whiteness-- that is the problem and I'm going to borrow that phrase in future conversations). The cherry on top is your last set of points about privilege: you didn't choose it, and that it exists regardless of your individual actions. We shouldn't feel badly or in any way ashamed about our whiteness (or maleness); these are integral immutable aspects of ourselves. But rather we have a responsibility to be aware of the systems that give privilege and protections to these things, to the detriment of those without them. So well said 💯.
