I agree that it is likely no reader actually thought you meant wankers the width of canned veggies. But I have a suspicion this fellow meant well in pointing out what is accurately an error, even if he may unintentionally be playing to stereotype of man-criticizing-woman that women author's have to contend with daily (sorry Charlie, but that context is important to keep in mind when pointing out what you think is an innocent correction).

Too it's hard to not be defensive about our "babies" we've polished and repolished and released into the writersphere, I find. I know plenty of writers whose mantra is "never read the comments" for this reason...and their own mental health.

I guess I'm trying to see both of your points of view in the best light and maybe suggest you really need not be in opposition. Perhaps with a bit of sunshine and luck. Best regards all around.
