I can sympathize with a certain skepticism about leaping to the most negative possible interpretation of an event, and I do believe that instead of a single "truth" every story has a perspective. Told from the point of view of the landlord, we might better judge his motivations. But Mrs. Bradshaw's truth is also undeniable: she shares exactly how this made her feel, her concern as a mother that she might have the security of her home used against her by the landlord. This power dynamic is arguably THE critical factor of this story. "Erotic adventures" offered in these circumstances are not the same as those offered in circumstances of equal power over each other--surely this is something you might be able to understand?

To so belligerently dismiss this as "victimizing" herself, or even more flippantly as "scandalization for clicks" to my eyes makes you appear as someone with an axe to grind rather than someone objectively challenging with a differing point of view (and frankly is a male response to women on Medium who write about sexuality that is almost a cliché at this point). If you truly want folks to appreciate what you are trying to say, I would urge you to change your approach: lead with attempting to understand, and perhaps a modicum of kindness as well.

Musing and writing about sexuality and ethics. I think I made $8.75 last year from Medium. I’m not here for the money. I’m here to explore and engage.
