I love this part about restorative justice (truth and reconciliation!). The absence of a path back to a place of health and balance through admission and understanding I believe to be a sizable part of the resistance to change of broken people and systems. Just about anyone without a dogmatic bias realizes Kavanaugh was at the very least an abusive drunkard of a young man. By my reckoning he’s carried that brokenness, shame, and a certain blithe callousness to the Supreme Court with him, regardless of whatever other aspects of his life he may have managed to turn around, and we are worse off as a country for it. His story repeats itself endlessly. Frank discussion such as your article gives me hope for our ability to break the cycle.
