I love your engagement on this topic Em! I have two concerns, a comment, and a compliment.

First, I agree with the others who have said the title could be a bit less...overwrought. I think it suggests a shaming of anal sex rather than constructive engagement (though your wording absolutely does not shame it). Second, I think I would seek to offer fewer black-and-white "rules" here. In my experience, there is wonderful diversity in human sexuality, and there are very few actual absolutes in sex. For example, a condom is to protect against STDs and the risk of UTI, but it is hardly the only way to safeguard against either when engaging in bootie amusements. As a matter of fact the women who I have known who enjoy it most and are most experienced tend to have preferred to forego condoms in favor of other solutions (at least with me this was true).

Next, definitely run your text through a grammar/spellcheck. I always do and it always always catches things I miss.

Last, I in particular love your references and quotes back to your prior article applauding the potential joys of ass adulation of all kinds, and mention of massage play in particular. Highly enjoyable anal stimulation by no means has to include penetration. The ass is not going away anytime soon as an object that incites desire, nor is the deliciousness of exploring sexual taboos, and I think we'll all be having better sex as we raise our sexual IQs. I appreciate you tackling this!

Musing and writing about sexuality and ethics. I think I made $8.75 last year from Medium. I’m not here for the money. I’m here to explore and engage.
