Ironically you are proving his point that a young man expressing anguish and anger at feeling directionless and isolated will find himself met with derision and a lack of empathy. Part of his pain sounds like it is from patriarchal traditions of parental expectation too. I have faith that you can do better than a response that is limited to citing dogma and invalidating his experience (more irony there too).
