You and me both are sighing, Elle. I'll be the more blunt one: these responses read to me like a barely-cohesive, vaguely passive-aggressive sounding patchwork of random thoughts and anecdotes. They feel like they are less about your article and more about a need to aimlessly bemoan cultural changes that are leaving some old ways of doing things behind. Sorry if that seems unkind, Bill, but I'm calling it like a see it: you used strong words and she called you out on it. You can hardly put on a pretense of an exasperated and misunderstood humorist when it falls flat.
Though if it helps, I do agree that there can often be a distasteful lack of space for humor among current idealism.
Then again a lot of the jokes just aren't funny.
